Do you really love walking in the rain?...

Whether or not you love the rain or not, we all have special memories with this wonder of nature. Read today's post...

I like the rain. There, I said it, it’s out there and you can judge me all you like. Or, if you just happen to enjoy a rainy day as much as I or even a tiny bit, then read on rain soldier.

When I see storm clouds forming in the sky, I get excited. When the sky is flooded with drops of rain crashing down into the ground and dancing in puddles, lakes or even at the beach, I get a sense that I am witnessing something amazing, something that perhaps I shouldn’t be allowed to see. It’s too good to be true, this can’t possibly be available to everyone and surely any minute now I will be told that I am trespassing and need to leave the premises. The wonderful reality is that these angled showers that fall to the earth are indeed free for all to enjoy but as I turn around to see who else is watching with me, standing under them with me, I see no one. Where is everybody?

There are two types of things we like in this life; those things and activities that we do actually like and those things that we wish we actually liked. Let me explain. It is not uncommon when asked the question, “what do you like to do?” that many of us, instinctively fire off answer such as reading, exercising, traveling and helping the poor. Now those are in and of themselves noble pursuits and worthy or listing but if the follow up question of “do you actually do those things?” is asked, more often than not, the true answer to those initial statements is, no. Now I get that life gets in the way of lfe sometimes and it’s just not possible to get all the things we want done, done. However sometimes we desire things that might sound good on paper and to others but perhaps aren’t truly on our “things we like to do” list.

Why am I rambling on like this? Good question. Simply because walking or getting caught in the rain is on many people’s list of things they love to do or haven’t done in a long time yet whenever the opportunity presents itself, they run like there is acid dripping from the sky concocted by some evil plan of Dr. Evil. You’ve seen these folks. Under a newspaper, shopping bag over their head, under any awning they could find and last but not least, the jacket gets raised to chest level and hunched over. Two drops of rain fall from the sky and suddenly there are thousands of Quasimotos running around.

What causes this hysteria if rain is to be good for the crops, good for the earth and in every Hollywood movie I’ve scene, charming as the day is long? A kiss in the rain is said to be among the most romantic of gestures yet I still long for the day where I am surprised by a couple sharing that very moment as the sky blankets them with millions of droplets. More poems have been written about the rain than can be counted and talking about a rainy Sunday afternoon, most everyone shares the same sigh of delight wishing that they could be a participant in such a day.

Well, this has got to stop. The rain, for whatever reason is part of our lives and we can’t ignore just how amazing it is. Sure, sometimes it comes when we want to go to the park, or planned a BBQ or even scheduled a wedding but so what? We need some randomness in our lives still. We wake up to schedules, attempt to organize each and every minute down to the nanosecond. Even the weather channel is there to make sure we outsmart the rain every chance we get. No way it’s going to catch me with my back turned. No siree! We’re watching you mother nature and the more rain you send, the bigger umbrellas we’ll get and the more we’ll stay inside. We’ve got things to do and nothing is going to stand in our way.

Sounds pretty silly when we say it out loud doesn’t it? It doesn’t have to and I propose a small yet simple solution. If it has been more than a year since you’ve walked in the rain, it’s time to punch your card again. Now I am not talking about getting caught in the rain and running for your life, I am talking about deliberately walking a normal pace and getting soaked. If you have kids, remember, they are the perfect “get out of jail free” card when you want to do something stupid. You could always point to them if someone singles you out as crazy. As adults we can do some pretty ridiculous things as long as there is a 5 year old next to us. How else could I explain having the best time of my life at Sesame Place if I wasn’t with my niece and nephew?

The funny things is that once you do go out and enjoy these types of moments that life has to offer, no one is going to be looking and pointing at all. Much like those that watch the dance floor from the side lines, you will most likely be envied for having the passion inside of you to enjoy such moments. The only thing that separates your life from that of a Hollywood blockbuster is that we watch that movie from the couch. You don’t need to spend a million dollars a day to create a fake rainstorm. It’s all been taking care of and it’s free of charge.

We live in a place that has many wonders to observe but we can’t observe them if we’re constantly running from them. Life passes by at the pace that you decide to travel. If you walk, you can see a whole lot of it but the faster you go, although the planner may be full, the more it all becomes blurry and mashed together.

I’m staring at the horizon now and there is not a cloud in the sky. Don’t think it will rain but it just might and when it does I’ll see it coming and have plenty of time to forget my umbrella.

I hope you forget your umbrella too.

much today it's sunny love

Daily Update: I need your help and I promise this won't hurt a bit. I know many of you already recommend my music or writing to other people and I thank you so much for that. For those of you that might have not done so already, I can't tell you how much it helps even if you recommend me to one other person. I really feel like this is the year for big things but I can't do it alone. As my small token of thank you, please click the FREE GIFT banner to claim yours.

Once again, thank you for being the best fans and friends I could ever ask for.

Sesame Place, huh? :-) hehehe. That's beyond ADORABLE...just so you're aware. And the rain is a very beautiful thing...and you're right, most ppl run from it. Not sure why. However, we share the same views...it rained here last night..not enough to get drenched, but definitely enough to feel the cold little drops to hit my face, welcoming me and reminding me of my very small existence in this GREAT BIG HUGE world we live in. I LOVED it. This even probably sounds a little strange, but I was just talking to a friend of mine the other night when it was raining and I was saying how I loved the fact that rain somehow represented a sense of coziness (if you will) for me...like a private matter. Hmm... maybe it is because like you said everyone runs for cover, yet I'm the only one standing out there alone surrounded by nothing but a blanket of raindrops. Its almost like a sacred moment...a very awesome moment indeed. Anyhoo, enjoyed your post so you know me, just HAD to comment. :-) Hope you have a beautiful day today sunshine and hope you get some rain coming your way VERY SOON! <3 LL
